The direct translation of "enchufe" is "plug" or "socket" depending on the context. This word is commonly used by Spanish speakers when they want to talk about someone who can help them in some way.
I heard and understood this word fairly quickly when I came to Spain but often thought about what the correct translation into English would be. Both the word "plug" or "socket" are not options in this case and therefore the more simple solution of "connection" is better. For example: "I have a connection in that company that can help us with this problem".
